Hungary in Colour

The exhibition presents a remarkable collection never before seen in Hungary, recently discovered by researchers. The focal point of the exhibition is a series of photographs showcasing traditional Hungarian folk attire from various regions and settlements, originally displayed at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. Thought to have been lost, the photographs by János Tiedge have been loaned from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. continue

Gunpowder smoke among the stones of the fortress...

The outer and inner castle system was developed in the 1540s. The passage between them was the Dark Gate which is still visible today. The outer castle was destroyed in 1702, but the gate continued to be used and was only walled up at the beginning of the 19th century. continue

Ecclesiological Exhibition

One of the most spectacular and the most valuable unit of the museum’s permanent exhibition is the ecclesiological exhibition on the first floor. Mr. Béla Béres, a priest from Tokaj offered his 800 pieces collection to his favourite town’s museum in 1981. continue
The museum building
Marcali is situated in the North-West region of the county, 23 kilometers from the Lake Balaton, on a region bordered by the Small-Balaton and the Nagyberek. It is the largest settlement of the Marcali Hill. Since the middle of the 15th century it is mentioned as a county town. It was the cultural and economic center. continue
A taste of the exhibition
The railroad lamp collection of Haragovics József is shown in Fertőszéplak in a porched peasant house built at the beginning of the 19th century. This is the only one of the kind in Middle Europe. The visitors may learn of the giant changes that took place from the beginning until nowadays in railway transport. The thoroughly fashioned lamps were used in 21 countries. The 246 pieces shown characterize the railways of many countries including Holland, the USA, Mongolia, etc. The lamps from Hungary are unique too. continue
The Farm and Buildings on It
The Manor can be visited from the northern edge of the village where the church can be found. The village is one of the most beautiful settlements of the Balaton Uplands because of the surrounding landscape and the renovated buildings. The exhibition site gives home to native Hungarian domestic animals (grey cattle, racka sheep, buffalo, mangalica pig, and shepard dogs: komondor, puli). continue
The museum building
The Bori Kisjankó memorial house serves for two purposes. One is to demonstrate the life work of the exceptional talent in popular arts, Bori Kis Jankó, and the other is to represent the lifestyle of the agricultural workers. continue
The Sáfrik Mill has been protected a monument since 1966. It was built by Antal Hunyadi in the period from 1861 to 67 , with under powered grinding structure. The walls of the then three-story mill were built of sun dried brick. continue
The museum building
Varsány, where the village museum is found, is situated in Nógrád county, about six kms away from Szécsény. The village is well known for its architectural relics, popular traditions and a white willow tree standing in Táb lowland. The Museum was established in one of the peasant houses reprersenting the old architectural style. continue
The museum building
The house built in 1903 was bought by the community in 1983 and opened as a museum. Its interior consists of the objects of the small peasant Braun family, representing the whole set of their tools. continue
