Hungary in Colour

The exhibition presents a remarkable collection never before seen in Hungary, recently discovered by researchers. The focal point of the exhibition is a series of photographs showcasing traditional Hungarian folk attire from various regions and settlements, originally displayed at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. Thought to have been lost, the photographs by János Tiedge have been loaned from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. continue

Gunpowder smoke among the stones of the fortress...

The outer and inner castle system was developed in the 1540s. The passage between them was the Dark Gate which is still visible today. The outer castle was destroyed in 1702, but the gate continued to be used and was only walled up at the beginning of the 19th century. continue

Black Szerecseny Pharmacy Museum
The second pharmacy museum was opened in 1988 with permanent exhibitions and reference library, in place of the erstwhile "Black Saracen" pharmacy". The reconstruction works of the building under 3 Rákóczi street was completed according to 17-18th century states between 1984 and 1988. continue
It is little known that the first Local- and Settlement Museum of Budapest first opened in Óbuda in 1927 in an old boy-school under the name of Árpád Museum of Óbuda. Its collection perished in WWII, so the museum of today is not the heir or successor of the Árpád museum, it is only its spiritual heritage. continue

The first museum of the outskirts of Budapest was founded in 1951. The first collection was based on the material of natural sciences and biology from the science lab saved by teachers under WWII. Later five locals continued collecting while they slowly began to focus on memories of local history. This is how the science lab turned into a museum of local history. continue

Györköny is in Tolna County, Hungary, close to the Danube. The settlement is in a valley; its ground is excellent for agricultural works. It has been a populated location since ancient times. The first written document is a tax list of the Vatican from the 13th century. continue

The permanent exhibition presents the paintings and personal belongings of Vidovszky Béla (1883-1973), Corini Margit (1897-1982), the painter of Paris nights, the graphics of Illéssy Péter (1902-1962) grafikái, as well as the statues of Pásztor János (1881-1945) from the National Gallery. We also open four of five temporary exhibitions per year of the works of artists related to the region. continue
Early Christian Mausoleum - Pécs
The roads leading out of Sopianae, the Roman predecessor of Pécs to the north and northeast were edged by cemeteries. The walls of the crypt are decorated with murals imitating marble incrustation, Bible related themes. The Hellenistic style relief's of the sarcophagus were carved on marble from Noricum (Austria). continue
