The new and current permanent exhibition, entitled "Men and their surroundings in the region of Hortobágy" was opened on 20th October 1995.
The single units of the permanent exhibition give us an insight into the past history of the settlement and its environment. The etnography of the region is also demonstrated. Tools and photographs introduce us into the world of various crafts (hatter, hammer-smith, cartwright and belt-maker, etc.). The flora and fauna of the region are also demonstrated.
In 1998 the institution took up the name of the scientist mineralogist Andor Semsey (1833-1923). The building was built by Andor Semsey, who was enthusiastic supporter of the case of the museum. He was honorary principal of the Hungarian National Museum and the most significant builder of the natural science collection.
The permanent exhibition was extended by a new room, the so-called Semsey room, in which we can trace back the history of the Semsey family.
