The exhibition focuses on the most popular literary works by Örkény One Minute Stories and his absurd plays of which many were successfully staged in several towns of the world. The organizers hope these will shed light on the grotesque way Örkény saw the world, and also his life philosophy. The exhibition is set in a world reminding the visitors of one of his most well-known plays with all the boxes, the play called The Tóth Family.

After visiting the first room where Örkény's biography is shown, the visitors enter the second room which is a maze made of boxes where they can find their favourite one minute story in a world that is just as grotesque as Örkény's was. Pondering at the world upside down, the visitors may recognize themselves, their daily life and routine, their anxiety but their fright may just be resolved by a good laugh. When rereading a passage, the visitors may also realize that the issues Örkény raised are just as timely these days.

Örkény relied on his readers when in his one minute stories he worked a little harder on our imagination as customary. He provides the least information, expecting the most from our imagination. Just the same, the exhibition expects the active participation of the visitors.

How Much? Thirty-three. What is thirty-three? How Much is Everything?

Örkény István would be one-hundred years old - let us note this and celebrate him all through the year.
