The exhibition presents papers written on birch bark, period weapons, prayer books, postcards and various other relics from WWI. Museum workers are inviting students to take part in their irregular history classes to learn more about WWI.
The students may touch and hold the items in their hands, may also try on helmets or red cross nurse uniforms, among others. In addition, they may also learn about the history of the Doberdo Tree and the history of the Wooden Soldier. The Doberdo Tree was the refuge of Hungarian soldiers who fought on the River Isonzo, and which was shot to pieces by the Italian soldiers. The remains of the tree that became the symbol of the deceased soldiers were transported to Szeged in 1916 and are still kept in the Black House. The Wooden Soldier also commemorates the victims of the war: families of Szeged who lost a family member to the war drove a nail each into the tree to commemorate their beloved.
The chamber exhibition is a good opportunity for primary school students to learn about WWI. Prior notice needs to be sent.
