The Museum of Fine relaunched its representative exhibition series in 2006 that reviews the most evaluated paintings of a nation We had exhibitions of El Greco, Velázquez, Goya. The exhibition 'Five Centuries of Spanish Painting Masterpieces' was among the most visited exhibitions that year. In the past few years, we showed Italian paintings of the 15-18 century through a sequel of exhibitions. The first exhibition was held in 20092010 entitled From Botticelli to Tizian. It was one of the greatest event in the modern days of the Museum of Fine Arts.. The following exhibition dealt with Italian painting's following art period, with the From Caravaggio to Canaletto – Masterpieces of Italian Paintings of Two Centuries.
The Holland collection of the museum is one of the most significant ones in the world, with 500 paintings by masters from the 17th century. It is the forth in rank among exhibitions not held in Holland. It regularly takes part at special exhibitions with other influential paintings. The grand-scale exhibition we plan to open in the autumn of 2014, we would like to direct attention to this unit of the Old Gallery , introducing the 'Golden Century of Holland' to the visitors
The material on display is divided into eight sections, dealing with national growth of the country, independence, prosperity, religion, family and the world all together. Painters are faithful chroniclers of daily life but are also those who transfer ethic teaching to the people.
Rembrandt and his art deserved a separate unit: he was a master of portraying people, as well as Biblical themes. Over 10 works by Rembrandt will be shown, first time in Hungary that many. His compositions, the play of light and shadow are there in the works of his apprentices, too. It seems right now that two paintings by Vermeer will be also included in the material. This will be the first time that a Vermeer is shown in Hungary due to the small number of paintings preserved by the master.
We selected masterpieces from over fifty museums to add to the ones in the collection in Budapest, from museums such as the Rijksmuseum, the National Museum of Stockholm , the Louvre of Paris, the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna , the New York Metropolitan, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington .
