The art historian Tamás Kieselbach wrote about outstanding painters from the Great Planes – Koszta, Tornyai, István Nagy – that he considered them manifestations of modern European painting art growing from Hungarian soil.
We can definitely say that József Kosta or even János Tornyai were up to date in terms of simultaneous French trends. The they gradually incorporated this information into their picturesque language and subsequently they filtered these through their personality and used what proved to be the best to express themselves.. This is how József Joseph Koszta came up with "Night Sunshine ", or it must have been how János Tornyai's infinite number of colours in the suburbs of Baja were found but we can also mention the themes about parks in Szentendre.
The selection from Tornyai János Museum collection is to represent János Tornyai's major artistic periods of most significant image themes or convey the sense of 'from colour to colour.
