The newest temporary exhibition of the Hungarian Geology Museum presents the life-work of the geologist Lóczy Lajos jr. (1891-1980) via documents as well as personal articles on the 25th anniversary of the death of the scientist.
The world famous Asia researcher followed the footsteps of his father Lóczy Lajos sr. (1849-1920). Lóczy his studied in Zurich. At the time of WWI, he was the member of the MTA 1917-18 expedition to West Serbia to work on her geologic map. Later he did fieldwork in Sumatra, Celebes, Ecuador, Poland and Yugoslavia.
In 1933, he became the manager of the Hungarian Geology Institution. He also played an important role in setting up the first petroleum fields in Hungary. He did the same in Marocco, Turkey, Greece and South America.
In 1970, petroleum was discovered in Brazil following his study. He wrote over 90 studies. Many professional boards elected him member. Throughout his work, he gained fame for Hungarians.
