He attended Primary and Secondary School in the town of his birth, Keszthely. He had excellent grades so he was accepted to the Eötvös Collage in 1924 where he studied history and geography. He became member of the Hungarian Association of Geology while at collage. He wrote his doctorate on the geography of the Hills of Keszthely. Due to the recommendation of his teachers Cholnoky Jenő and Teleki Pál, he received scholarship and spent the years 1928-29 at the University of Berlin.
Returning home, he was appointed assistant lecturer in the Geography Institution of the University. Later he was the senior lecturer beside Cholnoky Jenő. After the retirement of Cholnoky, he took over the new geography Department. He was a worthy successor of Cholnoky Jenő. In 1946, he became correspondent of MTA but three years later, he was deprived of his academic title.
His undiminished energy and work can be characterized by the fact that he became member of the MTA again in 1954. He was chosen the president of the Hungarian Association of Geography in 1952. During the period of 1954-1956 he was the manager of the research group of MTA and the head editor of the magazine 'Geography Herald'. His work was halted by his death on 1 September 1962 at age 55.
