The coin historian, researcher and collector of objects and documents related to the national hymn Ádám Nagy is employed by the Ferenc Móra Museum. The acclaimed numismatic has been chained to our national poem since 1960. At 16.00 on 22 January, on the birthday of the HungarianAnthem written by Ferenc Kölcsey, an exhibition opens presenting poems by Ádám Nagy at the József Koszta Museum.
Except from the collection of Ádám Nagy
The exhibition presents several books, publications and at least thirty medallions and record sleeves, music sheets and stamps. Among the coins, the visitors can see a medallion made by Ferenc Csúcs in 1943 with the inscription 'God bless Hungarians' that, according to experts is one of the best relics related to the Anthem. We also show a gypsum form that served as base for the golden medallion made in memoriam Ferenc Erkel who put the words into music.

Ádám Nagy reflects on the following interesting facts: the Hungarian national anthem has been translated into 30 languages. In the 1950's Mátyás Rákosi wanted to have Gyula Illyés to write a new Poem for anthem. However, the poet giant did not accept the commission. Kölcsye's work was first taken under protection in the fall of 1989 as reference to the Anthem became part of the new constitution.

The exhibition however does not only bear in mind the official national poem since the Széchényi Hymn or the hymn written in honour of Franz Joseph is also dealt with.

According to Ádám Nagy, it was worth setting up a movement in order to disperse the misbelieve that the national anthem suggest a pessimist view. The historian of numismatics of the Móra Museum believe that Kölcsey wrote an elevated poem while the music written by Ferenc Erkel is a really dashing piece since according to the original music sheet the tune was composed after a recruiting song. The museologist hopes that these thoughts are fortified by the present exhibition in Szentes.

Ádám Nagy is a pensioner now, however, he continues his research of objects and documents related to the national anthem. He hopes to achieve his goal: to take the exhibition dealing with our national poem to every single Hungarian habitat.
