The new temporary exhibition of our gallery records the history of the soda industry in Hungary. Bánffi István, an outstanding figure and collector of this trade, as well as the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism lent this great exhibition to us.
The beautifully shaped and coloured bottles are silent witnesses of the past, the photos and the interesting fly-bills, as well as the apparatus arouse the interest of the visitors. One of the most interesting piece is the very special and today hardly known bottle with ball stopper (also known as kracherli or krachedli). The ball got stuck at the loer, narrow part of the neck and because of a V-shaped edge inside the neck the ball was prevented from rolling back to our mouth.
This is what Sándor Márai, the famous writer in his work on the Hungarian wines wrote about soda water and "fröccs": "Because soda water is no mineral water, we should not forget that. Soda water means a civilised world, it is true, but the experience of generations and centuries was needed before the Hungarian invented fröccs, the secret of long life." Today soda is an inseparable part of the Hungarian gastronomy.
Make sure of the rightness of this thought and visit our exhibition!
