The roads leading out of Sopianae, the Roman predecessor of Pécs to the north and northeast were edged by cemeteries. The walls of the crypt are decorated with murals imitating marble incrustation, Bible related themes. The Hellenistic style relief's of the sarcophagus were carved on marble from Noricum (Austria).
