The museum was nationalized in 1949 which year may be accepted as the year of its foundation. In 1950, the museum was detached from the library. The field of collection of the material was designated in the same year. In the few months following the nationalization the manager was Dr. Imre Szentmihályi. From 1950, Edit Kerecsényi fulfilled the position.
