The BKV has been pondering on reconstructing and showing vehicles that has served transportation. The Budapest Transportation Company shows its history at an exhibition in Szentendre opened 15 years ago.

The compilation called Town Public Transportation Museum opened on 14 July 1992 in an old HÉV reconstructed shed. The museum building has five wards, halls, and open-air space and a scale model room.

The exhibition presents how Budapest became a city from the point of view of public transportation. The visitors are informed on the public transportation, its development in Budapest, other towns in Hungary, infrastructure via documents and other objects of interest such as tickets etc. Town Mass Transportation Museum invites the visitors with sixty renovated vehicles. Kids may also climb on the vehicles.

We show the 120-yea-old HARASZTI no. 4 BHÉV local train made in Graz in 1887, a twin coach of the BLVV (Budapest-Szentlőrinc Local Train) made in the Ganz Facttory. We also show a no. 418 tram made in 1887 that represented the history of transportation of Budapest at the Hungarian Season in 2007 in Paris. We also show buses eg a green ZIU-5/D trolley along with sand tables that shows the state of Széll Kálmás Square in 1942.

During the operation of the museum, the exhibition continuously developed. Beside the reconstruction of the building and the wards, the number of vehicles shown also grew. Lat time a UV ram that has operated from 1956 bin Budapest has been added to the collection. The museum became very popular among visitors both from Hungary and abroad. Due to this fact, we are also planning to open temporary exhibitions and organize programs for kids. We also intend to open a souvenir shop to satisfy the need of our visitors. We also added material from private collections. Off course, it is important to continue collecting work.

The collection is nostalgia for many since we show many vehicles that has been in he streets a few decades ago.
