Ever since the 18th century, the Paper Factory of Diósgyőr was very important on the industrial scene of both Miskolc and Hungary. It is the only factory in Hungary that has been open for 220 years without a break. In 1872, Sámuel Martinyi founded the factory in the valley of Szinva, keeping in mind similar European factories. We know papers with watermark and dates made in the factory in Diósgyőr in 1802. The Paper Industry Museum opened on the 220th anniversary of the opening of the factory. A curiosity to be seen is a charter of the Hungarian Industry signed by Lasjos Kossuth and the count Lajos Batthyány. Several other documents are shown along related to the Paper Factory of Diósgyőr.
Downstairs, a paper dipping workshop illustrates work in the manufacture. Pageants show processes of first manual and afterwards machine paper manufacture. The documents and tools are shown as the organizers wish to involve the visitors in the process of paper manufacturing.
Alongside the works of art show upstairs, we also show watermarked paper we produced in the past few years and which are now known aboard too. Banknote paper from 1920 is part of the display. The new banknote series are made with increasing security protection which fulfils the European requirements.
A paper dipping workshop downstairs crowns the showing. At the museum, stamps can be obtained as a station of 'Land, Eras and Museums'
