Péter Váczy had begun collecting fine and applied art items since the 1930'ies. His private collection was transferred to Győr in the following way: "I visited historian professor Péter Váczy two years ago. His great collection of XV-XVIII. century furniture, porcelains, glasses, carpets and church relics was famous nation-wide. He would have liked to keep the items together, and it was my pleasure to place this marvellous material in my home town, Győr" - Ernő Kolozsváry.
Italian Writing Desk
Unfortunately Péter Váczy could not see the exhibition of his lifework, for a fortnight before the opening of the museum he was forever gone.

The core of the collection is made up by renaissance and baroque pieces of furniture and artistic objects. Of the periods preceeding it there are some Greek, Roman, medieval Hungarian and Chinese (porcelains, chandeliers, etc.) objects are found.

The nicest pieces of the museum are a nicly ornamented 16th century Spanish writing bin, three 16th century leather- and velvet armchairs, a lion-legged circular table, a Giacomo Piazetta table, a richly carved Italian dish holder, a richly ornamented cabinet wardrobe, rococo commodes, gold covered and carved mirrors, etc.

In the fine art collection we will find such works as the 15th century Mary and the child Jesus and the saints (painting from Siena), Pietro Muttoni's Iphigenia, a Biblical scene painted by Sebastian Bourdon, a picture painted about a someone's martyrdom by Gregorio Guglielmi, a wooden relief about the worship rendered to Christ (around 1500 A.D.), a 16th century cross and a statue made by an anonym South-German master.
