If we contemplate the works of Tibor Jankay three symbols appear on them very often. For him the first is the female character as the alpha and omega of matters, the second is the Sun which gives light to life and can be interpreted as the origin of hope and belief. The third symbol is the bird which is an extra for the first two, the metaphorical shape of the soul, love and free spirit.

This exhibition is based on the third symbol and exhibits the common and the most characteristic bird depictions in Jankay's career. The launching paintings of the exhibition, - in the same way as the conception of the earlier exhibition of the Sun collection-, exhibits the realistic depiction of birds and poultry which are possible to exhibit exclusively only from our graphic collection. That is why we can not exhibit paintings from that period of his art. However the explanatory metamorphosis of the motif cannot be done without the exhibition of his earlier works.

The second section of the exhibition is based on paintings which were created in Hungary and in The United States. In these paintings not only realism is found but also inspiration of folk art appears with the world of fantasy which can be seen on the third wall. Jankay ‘opens his wings' in sculptural works and bird becomes symbol so that the figures are on the wing. In the last section of the exhibition the presentation of the whole theme and variations appear also which are abstracted from real birds. In this section the virtuoso reached the phase of transubstantiation where flying means an artistic flight. Therefore Tibor Jankay created a special alloy of Hungarian and American folklore since he related the above mentioned bird-depiction, an important theme in Hungarian folklore with American abstract expressionism. It is viewed and internationally respected through hard work by artists overseas, and also arises from the same spirit.

The Bird was not accidentally chosen in 2003 by the Jankay Collection and Contemporary Gallery for emblem and now it is linked to this exhibition by the artist's individual mythology.
