András Mengyán, a distinguished artist, designer, and professor, is a leading figure in Hungarian visual and applied arts, having been awarded the prestigious Prima Primissima Prize in 2024.

As a founding member of the OSAS – Open Structures Art Association, he regularly exhibits at the Vasarely Museum. Renowned for his practice in geometric abstraction and constructivism, Mengyán demonstrates exceptional proficiency across various mediums, including painting, object design, and multimedia installations. A graduate of the Hungarian University of Applied Arts in 1968, he has maintained his sensitivity to design while progressively focusing on fine art throughout his career.

His works are characterised by conceptual, geometric, and serial approaches, consistently reflecting a systemic perspective. In the 1980s, he emerged as a pioneering force in computer-based art and environments, both within Hungary and internationally. Through an innovative combination of light, sound, film, mirrors, and wires, he creates immersive spatial experiences, actively involving the viewer in his works. His pieces are part of numerous esteemed collections across Hungary and abroad.

This solo exhibition, hosted in the chamber hall of the Vasarely Museum, celebrates his diverse and progressive oeuvre in honour of his 80th birthday. The exhibition presents a carefully curated selection of paintings created over the past three years, alongside a new large-scale laser installation and two monumental sculptures. The works on display offer not only deep conceptual insight but also an unforgettable and spectacular visual experience for visitors.
