Mary Teresa arrived with her family to spend five days in Vác on 27, August, 1764. They were invited by the bishop of Vác: Kristóf Migazzi. The queen was escorted by her husband, I. Franz, Emperor of the German-Roman Empire, and her four children, Joseph, King of Rome, Prince Lipot, and the Princesses Anne and Kristina. The visit of the Royal family was always the honor of their host. Mary Teresa rarely spent a long time as a quest somewhere which made her arrival at Vác even more unique.
The bishop was the landlord of the town. He worked out a detailed program for the preparations. The town still had traces of the destruction of the Turkish and the Rákóczy War of Independence on it. New construction works had started to rebuild the town. The works that had started earlier sped up. The planning of the reception and the celebration was a great deal of a work as well.
The Royal family and its escort arrived on a boat on the Danube from the Parliament of Bratislava. The place of their embarkation is signed by a triumphal arch. The quests took up an abode at the Main Square of the town in a one story building as the quest of the bishop. The Royal family visited several churches, institutions. They saw the shows that were performed for them, the competitions, and the demonstrations. They also took a short visit to Buda on a bridge that was constructed for only this occasion. They had seemed to be satisfied with their welcome.
These five days changed the town of Vác. The strict rules of rebuilding required a considerable attention on the field of administration and organization. The characteristic Baroque buildings of the town were built for the occasion of the arrival of the Royalties. These buildings are still emphatic buildings of the town nowadays. Relics of the church and several objects were made for this occasion in the Royal workshop. Many of the buildings and institutions which are important details of our town nowadays were built of the amount the monarch gave as his gratitude.
