The new temporary exhibition of the Nagykőrös Museum presents the history of the cannery in town. The cannery was closed last years but the Cannery Museum preserved memoirs of the history of the factory which is the basis of the opening exhibition.
The predecessor of the factory was established in 1896 by the Gschwindt joint stock company. Can food was first produced in the Gschwindt factory in 1922. Several original photos and documents conjure up the era when production was manufacture-like. Among others, we show characteristic tin boxes for jam, tools first used for making jam and a hand operated fruit cleaning machine from 1922.
After WWII, the factory was nationalised. With the management of Sándor Kovács, it became a modern cannery with modern machines. Juice bottles, tins, jam jars represent the wide range of produce from the factory. Scale models of machines were made by students in the workshop of the factory. One showcase is filled up with charters, trophies and medallions the factory received throughout the years at fairs and exhibitions.
Pageants with photos show everydays, as well as the process of production in the factory. The factory owned a wind band, a film club, a sport club shown in photos. The exhibition opened by the academic Dr. Pál Romány is open for one year at the János Arany Museum in Nagykőrös.
