Antal Sprok worked as a designer at the furniture factory in Csongrád in the 1980s. Later on he opened his first workshop in a housing estate garage. Afterwards he worked as a studio manager at the Opera House. He turned to sculpture towards the end of the 1990s. Preparing for a furniture exhibition held in Cologne, he came up with the idea of Centaur-style furniture that were statues and furniture at the same time. He has showed in France, Finland, Germany and Switzerland so far.
The wood statues are with unique humour and irony. Antal Sprok pays special attention to keep the uniqueness of the wood after forming them. 25 of these statues are shown at the exhibition at the Móra Ferenc Museum. One of them is a real curiosity. Antal Sprok made a 2.70 meter antelope furniture specifically for the present showing in Szeged.
