Nagyvázsony is located in the centre of the valley named after it, at the bottom of Kab Hill, along the road from Tapolca to Veszprém. It is about 27 km from Tapolca and 20 from Veszprém. Nagyvázsony was named for its first owner, the Vázsony genus with the first well-known member Ákos, the lord lieutenant, later the court judge of the Queen.
